માટે ઘણી વાર જોખમો પણ ઉઠાવવાં પડતાં. એક વાર કેટલાંક અગત્યનાં કામો
અંગે ભાવનગર જેલમાં શ્રી શંકરસિંહ વાઘેલા અને શ્રી વિષ્ણુભાઈ પંડ્યાનો સંપર્ક
જરૂરી હતો. ખાનગી પત્રોથી તો ચાલે તેમ હતું નહીં. મારે જેલમાં જઈ વિચારવિમર્શ
કરી પાછા આવવું એવી યોજના બની. એક ભૂગર્ભ કાર્યકરે જેલમાં મળવા જવું
એટલે મોતના મુખમાં જવા બરાબર! બધી તૈયારીઓ સાથે સપ્ટેમ્બર ose મધ્યમાં
હું ભાવનગર પહોંચ્યો. ભાવનગરમાં જ એક મુલાકાતી બહેન સાથે અમે જેલ પર
પહોંઆં. મુલાકાત પણ મળી ગઈ. એક કલાકનો જેલવાસ અને મુક્ત સત્સંગ પતાવી
હું સહીસલામત બહાર આવી ગયો. એક વાર મારો જામનગર જિલ્લાનો પ્રવાસ...
પ્રવાસ દરમ્યાન જ જામનગરમાં સમાચાર મળ્યા કે ત્યાંની જેલમાં શ્રી પન્નાલાલ
શાહની સ્થિતિ ગંભીર છે. અનેક ચિંતાઓ થવા માંડી... આ પડછંદ શરીરને શું
થયું હશે? જવાબદારી અને ભાવના વચ્ચે મનમાં તુમુલ યુદ્ધ ચાલ્યું! જવાથી
જવાબદારી જોખમાશે અને ન જવાથી મનમાં અકથ્ય વેદના થશે. અંતે ભાવના
જવાબદારી પર તિજયી બની. જોખમોની તૈયારી સાથે ભાઈ દિનેશને લઈને જેલ
પર પહોંઆ. કોઈ તૈયારી નહીં. પડશે તેવા દેવાશે ! થયું પણ એવું જ! પન્નાલાલની
સ્થિતિ વધારે બગડતાં તેમને હોસ્પિટલમાં દાખલ કરાયા હતા... એટલે જેલવાસી
કાંતિભાઈ મોદીને મળી વિગતો જાણી સીધો હૉસ્પિટલ પહોંચય. ત્યાં પણ પોલીસ-
પહેરો! પોલીસને સમજાવી-પટાવી પન્નાલાલને મળી શકાયું. ક્યાં એ પડછંદ શરીર
અને ક્યાં અર્ધું થયેલ નિસ્તેજ ખોળિયું... બોલવાની શક્તિ પણ નહીં, ઊભા થવાનો
તો પ્રશ્ન જ ક્યાંથી હોય? અમારી આંખો મળી. તેમને આશ્ચર્ય થયું. આંખમાં પાણી
આવી ગર્યાં. હું કમકમી ઊઠ્યો... પણ આ તો ભડવીર! મને કહે છે : “આવું જોખમ
