૧૮મી જાન્યુઆરીએ સાબરમતી આશ્રમમાં પૂ.રવિશંકર મહારાજના પ્રમુખપદે
ગુજરાતમાં કટોકટી સામે સંઘર્ષ કરી રહેલા કાર્યકર્તાઓનું એક સંમેલન યોજાયું. આ
સંમેલનમાં શ્રી ચંદ્રકાંત દરુ, શ્રી ચૂનીભાઈ વૈધ તેમ જ શ્રી વિષ્ણુભાઈ પંડ્યા હાજર
રહ્યા હતા. સંમેલનમાં પરિસ્થિતિનો નિર્ભયતાથી સામનો કરવાની હાકલ કરવામાં
આવી.
ગુજરાતના ધારાશાસ્ત્રીઓનું સંમેલન
ગુજરાતમાં કેટલાક ધારાશાસ્ત્રીઓએ કટોકટીના સમર્થનમાં કાર્યક્રમો કરવાનો
નિષ્ફળ પ્રયત્ન કર્યો. ત્યારબાદ ૨૮-૨૯ ફેબ્રુઆરીએ અમદાવાદમાં ગુજરાતના
ધારાશાસ્ત્રીઓનું એક વિશાળ સંમેલન યોજવામાં આવ્યું હતું. આ સંમેલનમાં
કટોકટીનો ઉગ્ર વિરોધ કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો અને લોકશાહીની પુનઃસ્થાપનાની
જુરૂરિયાત ઉપર ભાર મૂકવામાં આવ્યો હતો. આ સાથે અખબારો પર લદાયેલી
પ્રિસેન્સરશિપની ઉગ્ર શબ્દોમાં ઝાટકણી કાઢવામાં આવી હતી અને શરૂઆતથી જ
સરકારની આપખુદશાહી નીતિઓના વિરોધમાં અવિરત સંઘર્ષ ખેલી રહેલાં “સાધના”
અને “ભૂમિપુત્ર' એ બે નિર્ભયી પત્રોને અભિનંદન આપતો એક ઠરાવ યુવાન
ધારાશાસ્ત્રી મહેન્દ્ર આનંદે શ્રી ભાસ્કર તન્નાના ટેકાથી રજૂ કર્યો હતો. કહેવાની
ભાગ્યે જ જરૂર રહે છે કે આ ઠરાવ સર્વસંમતિથી પસાર થયો હતો.
આ સમારોહમાં ખાસ ઉપસ્થિત રહેલ શ્રી નરેન્દ્રભાઈ તથવાણીએ પણ
વિચારસ્વાતંતર્ય માટે લડતાં આવાં પત્રોની મહત્તાનો નિર્દેશ કર્યો હતો.

૨૪ સપ્ટેમ્બર '9૫ના રોજ અમદાવાદમાં હિમાભાઈ ઇન્સ્ટિટ્યૂટમાં અખબારી
સંમેલનના કન્વીનર શ્રી વિષ્ણુભાઈ પંડ્યાના નિમંત્રણથી એક સંમેલન બોલાવવામાં
આવ્યું. પત્રકાર શ્રી પ્રહ્લાદભાઈ બ્રહ્મભટ્ટના અધ્યક્ષપદે યોજાયેલ આ સંમેલનમાં
ગુજરાતનાં દૈનિક, અઠવાડિક, પાક્ષિક અને માસિકના તંત્રીઓ, સંપાદકો અને
પત્રકારોએ ભાગ લીધો હતો.
સંમેલનમાં થયેલ ચર્ચાવિચારણા દરમિયાન પ્રિસેન્સરશિપના ઓર્ડરની
મર્યાદામાં રહીને પણ જેટલું લખી શકાય તેટલું પણ નથી લખી શકાતું એ અંગે
