આંદોલનને કચડી નાખવા માટે સરકાર તરફથી અનેકવિધ પ્રયત્નો થયા; તે
છતાં પ્રજા પોતાની માગણીઓ માટે અવિરત સંઘર્ષ કરતી રહી. ભ્રષ્ટાચાર પ્રત્યેની
ગુજરાતની જનતાની નફરત અને ઉગ્રતા જોઈને શ્રી જયપ્રકાશ નારાયણ પણ
પ્રભાવિત થયા. મૂલ્યોની જાળવણીના આગ્રહ માટે નિર્માણ પામેલ આ આંદોલનને
જ્યપ્રકાશજીનું નૈતિક સમર્થન સાંપડ્યું. તેઓ ગુજરાતમાંથી જ પ્રેરણા લઈ બિહાર
ગયા... પરિણામે એનો ચેપ વિસ્તૃત રૂપ ધારણ કરી દેશમાં ન ફેલાય એ હેતુથી
કેન્દ્ર સરકારે ચીમનભાઈ પટેલને રાજીનામું આપી દેવાનું સૂચન કર્યું; આમ છતાંય
ગુજરાતની જનતાને ચીમનભાઈનું રાજીનામું મેળવવા અવિરત અને અભૂતપૂર્વ સંઘર્ષ
ખેલવો પડ્યો. ઘણા યુવાનોએ પોતાના પ્રાણની આહુતિ આપી દીધી. કેટલાક નિર્દોષ
યુવાનો મૃત્યુના ખપ્પરમાં હોમાઈ ગયા. ગુજરાતની ભૂમિએ જાણે કે ચંડિકાનું સ્વરૂપ
ધારણ કર્યું!સમગ્ર ગુજરાતમાં એક રક્તક્રાંતિ નિર્માણ થઈ. સમયની ગંભીરતા સમજી,
