कई बार घंटों तक मकानों में छुपे रहना पड़ता था। एक दिन जोरों की
बारिश हो रही थी। 'ऐसे मौसम में इतनी सुबह किसकी नजर पड़ेगी!” यह सोच
एक कार्यकर्ता तड़के ही शांता बहन गजेंद्र गडकर के घर पहुँचे । कुछ देर बातचीत
हुई होगी कि तभी पुलिस वैन घर के बाहर आकर रुकी । घर के सभी लोगों के होश
उड़ गए। तय था कि अब उन अतिथि कार्यकर्ता को कोई नहीं बचा सकता। वे लोग
जहाँ बैठे थे, उस ऊपरवाले कमरे तक पुलिसवाले चढ़ आए। उनके पीछे-पीछे ही
श्री केशुभाई पटेल तथा श्री अरविंदभाई मणियार भी आए। पुलिस दल को देखकर
अतिथि कार्यकर्ता उसी कमरे से लगे हुए दूसरे कमरे में जा छिपे। अपने कागज-पत्र
भी उन्होंने वहीं पर छिपाकर रख दिए, ताकि पकड़े जाने पर भी सरकार को कोई
गुप्त जानकारी न मिल सके; किंतु बाद में पता चला कि केशुभाई तथा अरविंदभाई
को पुलिस राजकोट से गिरफ्तार करके लाई थी और किसी अन्य कार्य से ही वे
सभी शांता बहन के घर आए थे। फिर भी, जब तक पुलिस वहाँ रही, अतिथि
कार्यकर्ता दम साधे उसी कमरे में छिपे रहे । पुलिस के जाते ही वे तुरंत वहाँ से
चलते बने।
समाज का प्रतिभाव
भूमिगत आंदोलन के दौरान समाज के विभिन्न वर्गों से संपर्क होता रहता

समाज की हमसे अपेक्षाएँ बढ़ने लगीं। उपहास करनेवाले अब उपहास करने की
स्थिति में नहीं रहे थे। 'बहनजी ' की बहादुरी से निर्मित परिस्थितियों ने किसी-न-
किसी तरह सभी को परेशान कर रखा था। चारों ओर घोर निराशा छाई हुई थी।
