जनता मोरचा द्वारा १५ से ३० अगस्त तक अहमदाबाद से दांडी तक की
*संघर्ष-कूच' का आयोजन किया गया। छह सौ सत्तर किलोमीटर लंबी इस कूच
का नेतृत्व सरदार पटेल की पुत्री कुमारी मणी बहन पटेल ने किया था। अहमदाबाद
के 'सरदार पटेल भवन' से प्रारंभ हुई इस कूच के रास्ते में जगह-जगह से लोग
कूच में शामिल होते और इन सबको डी.आई.आर. के तहत पकड़ लिया जाता।
चूँकि कुमारी मणी बहन की गिरफ्तारी के परिणाम क्या हो सकते हैं, इस बात को
सरकार भली-भाँति समझती थी, अतः उन्हें गिरफ्तार नहीं किया गया था। कूच के
मार्ग में, पुलिस की मौजूदगी के बावजूद, लोग भारी संख्या में बेखौफ उपस्थित
रहते और कूच का स्वागत करते। इस लंबी कूच के दौरान मार्ग में छप्पन स्थानों पर
प्रतीकात्मक सत्याग्रह किए गए, जिसमें हिस्सा लेनेवाले छियानबे कार्यकर्ताओं को
गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया था। इस 'संघर्ष-कूच' ने मार्ग में स्थित नौ जिलों में एक
नया जोश पैदा किया। रास्ते भर पूर्णत: अहिंसक रही इस कूच को बदनाम करने की
नीयत से कूच के अंतिम दिन पुलिस ने अपना असली रूप उजागर किया। वलसाड़
में जहाँ से होकर इस Ha को गुजरना था, वहाँ एक मोहल्ले में बैठे कुछ लोगों को
हिंसा के लिए उकसाने के आशय से पुलिस ने उनपर लाठियाँ बरसाईं। परंतु जहाँ
से होकर एक बार पृज्य बापू गुजरे थे, उस पथ पर बसनेवाले भला हिंसक कैसे हो
सकते थे! कुमारी मणी बेन बिना किसी रुकावट के दांडी तक पहुँचीं।
राजकोट में विद्यार्थी परिषद् के कार्यकर्ताओं ने अनेक प्रकार से कार्यक्रम
आयोजित किए। जन-जागृति के साथ-साथ उन्होंने संघर्ष-प्रवृत्ति भी जारी रखी
थी। राज्यपाल श्री के.के. विश्वगाथन के राजकोट दौरे के समय राजकोट विद्यार्थी
परिषद् के कार्यकर्ताओं ने उन्हें एक आवेदन-पत्र देकर गुजरात में मीसा के तहत
पकड़े गए विद्यार्थियों तथा अध्यापकों को तुरंत रिहा करने की माँग की। इस
आवेदन-पत्र पर सौराष्ट्र यूनिवर्सिटी के करीब ढाई हजार विद्यार्थियों ने हस्ताक्षर
किए थे।
“रैडिकल ह्ामनिस्ट' तथा ‘sada समाज' द्वारा संयुक्त रूप से अक्तूबर
माह के तीन रविवारों को चौवालीसवें संविधान संशोधन के बारे में चर्चा-सभाओं
का आयोजन किया। सर्वश्री उमाशंकर जोशी, दिनेश शुक्ल, मावलंकर, के.डी.
देसाई जैसे विद्वज्जनों ने उपस्थित रहकर इन सभाओं का मार्गदर्शन किया।
