सामूहिक पाठ तथा कई साथियों द्वारा किए जानेवाले जप-ध्यान आदि से जेल का
तंग व कलुषित वातावरण भी सरलता व पवित्रता धारण कर लेता था।
जेल के संवेदनहीन माहौल में भी रसानुभूति को बनाए रखनेवाले कई
रंगारंग कार्यक्रम भी किए जाते थे। कहीं पर गीतों की महफिलें हुईं, जिनमें हृदयों
को छू लेनेवाले कोमल गीतों से लेकर जेल की दीवारों को हिला देनेवाले जोशपूर्ण
देशभक्ति गीत गाए जाते तो कहीं पर श्री ब्रह्मकुमार भट्ट की शास्त्रीय संगीत की
सभा ने कैदियों के हृदय को पुलकित किया और कहीं पर भक्तिरस से भरे भक्ति
गीतों ने हृदय की व्याकुलता को कम किया।
हमारी भारतीय संस्कृति में उत्सवों-त्योहारों की वैसे भी कमी नहीं है।
जेलवासी आएदिन उत्सव का कोई-न-कोई कारण ढूँढ़ ही निकालते थे। किसी
साथी का जन्मदिन, किसी नेता का जन्मदिन, ऐतिहासिक तिथियाँ, विभिन्न महापुरुषों
से संबंधित तिथियाँ इत्यादि की एक लंबी सूची तैयार कर तदनुरूप कार्यक्रमों का
आयोजन किया जाता था। कई बार ऐसे कार्यक्रम अनेक लोगों के लिए प्रेरणादायक
सिद्ध होते थे।
इन जेलों में विभिन्न विचारधाराओंवाले व्यक्तियों का संगम हुआ था, अतः
एक-दूसरे की विचारधाराओं को समझने के सामूहिक प्रयत्न भी होते रहते थे। हर
विचारधारा का पक्षधर अपना-अपना दृष्टिकोण प्रस्तुत करता व अन्य साथियों के
साथ प्रश्नोत्तरी के द्वारा अपनी बात को अधिक-से-अधिक स्पष्ट करने का प्रयत्न
भी करता। ऐसे मुक्त संवादों से कई आपसी मतभेद दूर हुए और इस प्रकार हासिल
हुई वैचारिक अनुरूपता से सभी एक-दूसरे के और निकट आए।
जेल-जीवन की एक विशेषता है, यहाँ कृत्रिमता लंबे समय तक नहीं टिक
