में लोक संघर्ष समिति के सदस्यों व आमंत्रितों की एक मीटिंग हुई, जिसमें
सत्याग्रह की समीक्षा की गई, आगामी कार्यक्रमों के बारे में विचार-विमर्श किया
गया तथा सरकार गिराने की कांग्रेस की कोशिशों के खिलाफ व्यापक जन-
संपर्क तथा जन-जागृति के कार्यक्रमों के आयोजनों का निर्णय किया गया। इसके
अलावा श्री मोरारजीभाई के जन्म-दिवस २९ फरवरी को विशेष कार्यक्रमों का
आयोजन करने का निर्णय भी किया गया। गुजरात में जे.पी. स्वास्थ्य निधि अभियान
भी व्यापक रूप से चलाया गया।
७ फरवरी के दिन “लोकतंत्र बचाओ' दिवस मनाने का निर्णय हुआ। इस
दिन गुजरात में जगह-जगह पर सभाओं व बैठकों का आयोजन कर कांग्रेसियों द्वारा
रचे जा रहे षड्यंत्र के बारे में प्रजा को अवगत करवाया गया तथा हजारों की संख्या
में तार, पत्र और प्रस्ताव भेजकर एवं रैलियों के द्वारा गुजरात के राज्यपाल से
लोकतांत्रिक प्रणालियों के अनुरूप बरताव करने का अनुरोध किया गया।
जनवरी माह से ही गुजरात में विपरीत परिस्थितियाँ आकार लेने लगी थीं।
कुदरत भी जैसे गुजरात की और अधिक परीक्षा लेना चाहती थी। शायद इसीलिए
संघर्षरत मोरचा सरकार के मार्गदर्शकों में से एक तथा जो स्वयं भी आपातस्थिति
की घोषणा से ही निरंतर संघर्ष में लगे थे, वे श्री वसंत गजेंद्र गडकर, १६ फरवरी
को स्वर्ग सिधार गए। गुजरात के जनजीवन में से एक सेवाब्रती राजनीतिज्ञ की क्षति
हो गई। श्री चिमनभाई शुक्ल ने अपने शोक संदेश में कहा था, 'लोकतंत्र को रक्षा
के लिए हो रहे इस संघर्ष में जहाँ एक-एक सैनिक बहुमूल्य है, वहाँ एक सेनापति
का ऐसे चल बसना हमारे लिए दुःखद व दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण घटना है। आपातस्थिति के
कारण श्री वकील साहब जैसे उनके वर्षों पुराने मित्र भूमिगत होने से उनके अंतिम
दर्शन तक न कर सके !” (वस्तुत: श्री वकील साहब भूमिगत होने के बावजूद श्री
गजेंद्र गडकर के अंतिम दर्शनों के लिए आए थे, किंतु उनकी सुरक्षा हेतु इस बात
को गुप्त रखा गया था )
इन्हीं दिनों संघर्ष के प्रतूकूल और भी कई घटनाएँ घटित हुईं। एक के
बाद एक नेता पकड़े जाने लगे। १२ फरवरी को “लोक संघर्ष समिति' के मंत्री
श्री रवींद्र वर्मा पकड़े गए तथा उनके साथ ही उनके सहयोग में लगे संघ के
बंबई के कार्यकर्ता भी गिरफ्तार कर लिये गए। लोक संघर्ष समिति के लिए यह
एक बहुत बड़ा आघात था। गुजरात के लिए भी यह बहुत कष्टकारी घटना थी,
क्योंकि श्री वर्मा की कार्यशैली से गुजरात के daa कार्यकर्ताओं का अच्छी
