२६ जून के बाद देश भर के समाचार-पत्र भी आपातकाल का शिकार बने
थे। मनमाने ढंग से सेंसरशिप लादकर लोकतंत्र का गला घोंटने में इंदिरा सरकार ने
कोई कमी नहीं छोड़ी थी; किंतु इस अत्याचार और अन्यायपूर्ण सेंसरशिप का कुछ
साप्ताहिकों व समाचार-पत्रों ने भी डटकर विरोध किया था।
२६ जून के बाद देश के समाचार-पत्रों ने विपक्षी नेताओं की तसवीरें तो
दूर, उनके नाम तक छापने बंद कर दिए थे। ऐसी विषम स्थिति में भी गुजरात की
एक गुजराती साप्ताहिक पत्रिका ' साधना ' ने एक विशेषांक प्रकाशित कर आपातकाल
के खिलाफ आवाज उठाई थी। इस विशेषांक में ' आपातकाल के बारे में पुनर्विचार
किया जाए' शीर्षक के अंतर्गत श्री वसंतभाई गजेंद्र गडकर के लेख के अलावा
*साधना' के संपादक श्री विष्णु पंड्या का लेख भी छपा था। इस लेख को उच्च
न्यायालय में “रिट' करने के बाद भी सेंसर करनेवाले रोक नहीं पाए थे। उस लेख
को रद्द करने का सेंसर का आदेश सरकार को निरस्त करना पड़ा था।
उसी विशेषांक में जेल में कैद जयप्रकाशजी, मोरारजी, अटलजी एवं राजमाता
विजयाराजे सिंधिया के फोटो भी छपे थे। उन परिस्थितियों में ऐसी सामग्री-युक्त
पत्रिका सामयिक लोगों के लिए बड़े कौतृहल का विषय था। प्रकाशित होने के दस
मिनट के भीतर ही area’ की चालीस हजार प्रतियाँ बिक गई थीं।“साधना' का
यह साहसपूर्ण कदम देश भर में अपनी तरह की पहली कोशिश थी।
इमरजेंसी कैप्सूल
१७ अगस्त को नड़ियाद में एक अनोखे कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया गया।
आपातकाल के नाम पर किए जा रहे काले कारनामों का विस्तृत विवरण, जेल में
बंद किए गए प्रमुख नेताओं के बारे में जानकारी एवं देश को गुलामी की जंजीरों में
जकड़नेवाली श्रीमती इंदिरा गांधी के स्वेच्छाचारी स्वभाव को अनावरित करनेवाले
लेखों की सामग्री से भरा एक कैप्सूल बनाया गया। इस कैप्सूल को सरदार पटेल
की प्रतिमा के समक्ष गड़ढा खोदकर जमीन में दफन किया गया। हजारों की संख्या
में नागरिकों ने इस कार्यक्रम में सोत्साह हिस्सा लिया था। इस कार्यक्रम के आयोजक
श्री प्रवीणकांत शाह व श्री हरीश पटेल को बाद में गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया था।
गुजरात विधानसभा के वर्षाकालीन सत्र में खाड़िया के विधायक श्री अशोक
भट्ट एवं राजकोट के विधायक श्री अरविंदभाई मणियार ने प्री-सेंसरशिप आदेश
के खिलाफ विशेषाधिकार हनन का प्रस्ताव सदन में प्रस्तुत किया। इस प्रस्ताव में
