Ara मंत्रिमंडल ने भी मोरचा संभाला
श्रीमती गांधी द्वारा थोपा गया आपातकाल २६ जुलाई को एक माह पूरा कर
रहा था। इस दिन “लोक संघर्ष समिति' एवं “जनता मोरचा' के संयुक्त तत्त्वावधान
में गुजरात भर में हड़ताल का आह्वान किया गया। स्वयं शासक दल द्वारा ही इस
प्रकार की हड़ताल की घोषणा गुजरात की जनता के लिए एक नया अनुभव था।
२६ जुलाई से पहले ही इस गुजरातव्यापी हड़ताल के समाचार भूमिगत
पत्रिकाओं एवं संदेशवाहकों द्वारा जन-जन तक पहुँच चुके थे। पुनः: एक बार
जनमानस में चेतना की लहर दौड़ गई थी। सभी राजनीतिक व सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता
इस कार्यक्रम को सफल बनाने के लिए कृत-संकल्प थे। भय और हताशा के भाव
लुप्त हो चुके थे।
हड़ताल के दिन गुजरात के शहरों, नगरों, छोटे-छोटे गाँवों तक में बाजार,
स्कूल-कॉलेज बंद रहे । अनेक जगहों पर विशाल रैलियाँ करके प्रजा ने आपातकाल
का विरोध किया। अहमदाबाद में इस विरोध के समर्थन में एक विशाल 'जनता
रैली' का आयोजन हुआ। इसका नेतृत्व जनता मोरचा के नेताओं एवं निर्दलीय
कार्यकर्ताओं ने किया। शहर के राजमार्गों को रौंदती हुई इस रैली ने प्रशासन समेत
सभी को यह अनुभूति करा दी कि लोगों पर से भय और निराशा की गिरफ्त अब
ढीली हो रही थी।
इस रैली ने काँकरिया, फुटबॉल मैदान पर पहुँचकर जनसभा का रूप ले
लिया। पचास-साठ हजार से भी अधिक के जनसमूह को जनता सरकार के नेता श्री
बाबुभाई जशभाई पटेल ने सवा घंटे तक संबोधित किया था। अपने भाषण में श्री
बाबूभाई ने निडरतापूर्वक आपातकाल का घोर विरोध करते हुए श्रीमती गांधी की
