ने अपने दम पर काम कर दिखाया।
इस संघर्ष से पहले कई लोग किसी-न-किसी पूर्वग्रह के कारण संघ कार्य
का वास्तविक मूल्यांकन नहीं कर पाए थे। ये लोग अपनी कल्पना के आधार पर ही
संघ की व्याप्ति तथा उसकी उपयोगिता के बारे में अनुमान लगाते रहते थे। संघ के
बारे में सकारात्मक बहुत कम सोचा जाता था; किंतु इस संघर्ष में संघ के देशव्यापी
संगठन, सभी को साथ लेकर काम करने की शैली, सहयोगियों के दोषों को
नजरअंदाज कर उनके गुणों को ही ध्यान में रखकर कार्य करने का तरीका इत्यादि
संघ की विशेषताओं का सभी को परिचय मिला। संगठन की विशालता के बावजूद
कभी भी संपर्क के अभाव की स्थिति (Communication Gap) नहीं बनने दी
गई। संघ के कार्यकर्ताओं को प्रसिद्धि का मोह न होने के कारण उन्हें बहुत कम
लोग ward थे। यह स्थिति संघर्ष के दौरान बड़ी सहायक सिद्ध हुई। उन्हें
पहचानने में पुलिस को बड़ी परेशानी होती थी; जबकि अन्य राजनीतिक दलों के
मुख्य नेता-कार्यकर्ता या तो जेल में थे या बहुत प्रसिद्ध होने के कारण खुलकर काम
नहीं कर सकते थे।
अनेक के निरंतर परिश्रम, बलिदान तथा विश्वास से बिना किसी क्षति या
रक््तपात के इस दूसरे दौर के स्वातंत्र्य-संग्राम में हमने विजय पाई थी। विजय
दिलवानेवाले घटकों में सर्वाधिक महत्त्वपूर्ण घटक था भारत का नागरिक- भारत
का मतदाता। सफल परिवर्तन की नींव में प्रजा की जो भावना निहित थी, उसकी
प्रतीति हो सके, इस उद्देश्य से उन्हीं दिनों की एक घटना यहाँ प्रस्तुत है--
चुनावों के सिलसिले में मैं दौरे पर था। गुजरात के उत्तर-पूर्वी जिले
साबरकाँठा के एक छोटे से गाँव से करीब पैंसठ वर्ष की एक वृद्धा बस में बैठी थीं।
