गया, जिसमें श्री मकरंदभाई देसाई तथा श्री हितेंद्रभाई देसाई को संघर्ष के पक्ष-
विपक्ष में अपना वक्तव्य देना था; किंतु हितेंद्रभाई इसके लिए हिम्मत नहीं जुटा
सके। हितुभाई और श्री हाथी ने अपने लिए अलग से कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन

तो उनकी फजीहत ही हुई। अतः कुछ समय बाद उन्होंने इस प्रकार के कार्यक्रमों
में जाना ही छोड़ दिया। बुलंद हौसले के साथ लंदन पहुँचे बेचारे हितेंद्रभाई को
अपनी शेष इंग्लैंड-यात्रा के दौरान बहुधा भूमिगत ही रहना पड़ा।
कुछ दिनों बाद श्री मकरंदभाई ने अमेरिका को अपनी गतिविधियों का केंद्र
बनाया। अब “सत्यवाणी' का प्रकाशन अमेरिका से होने लगा। अहमदाबाद के
खाड़िया के मेहता परिवार ने (सर्वश्री महेश मेहता, सुभाष मेहता, रागिणी बहन
इत्यादि) अमेरिका में मकरंदभाई की यजमानी की। न्यूजर्सी स्थित महेशभाई का
निवास-स्थान विदेश में चल रहे संघर्ष अभियान का एक और केंद्र बन गया।
अमेरिका में रहनेवाले पारसी सज्जन डॉ. फारूक प्रेसवाला ने भारतीय जेलों में कैद
नागरिकों पर होनेवाले जुल्मों की विस्तृत जानकारी “संयुक्त राष्ट्र मानवाधिकार
संघ' के समक्ष प्रस्तुत की । इस जानकारी में जुल्म का शिकार हुए नागरिक का नाम,
उम्र, जिस जेल में उसपर जुल्म हुए थे उस जेल का या थाने का पता, जुल्म की
तारीख और जुल्म के तरीकों इत्यादि का विस्तृत ब्योरा दिया गया था। भूमिगत
संपर्क व्यवस्था के माध्यम से ही यह सारी जानकारी अमेरिका भेजी गई थी और
यह जानकारी इतनी सटीक थी कि उसे झुठलाने के लिए सरकार की कोई बहानेबाजी
नहीं चल सकती थी।
श्री महेश मेहता का परिवार अमेरिका में चल रहे संघर्ष कार्य में सदा आगे
रहा था। उस परिवार के साथ ही रहनेबाली एक बहन अंजलि Teen स्वयं एक
सर्जनात्मक प्रतिभावाली व्यक्तित्व थीं, अत: Saari’ के प्रकाशन में उनका
विशेष योगदान हुआ करता था। अंजलि बहन भी मूलतः: खाड़िया की ही थीं। वे
बहुत संवेदनशील थीं। घर से दूर होने के बावजूद निडर होकर इस दूसरे दौर के
स्वातंत्र्य-संग्राम में वे अपना सक्रिय योगदान दे रही थीं; फिर भी असंतुष्टि का एक
भाव सदा उनके मन को कचोटता रहता था, क्योंकि अब तक लक्ष्य-प्राप्ति जो नहीं
हुई थी--देश की पीठ में अपनों द्वारा ही घोंपा गया खंजर अभी ज्यों-का-त्यों था।
अत: एक मासूम बच्चे की भाँति ईश्वर से रुष्ट होकर उन्होंने एक प्रण ले लिया--
