अपने घर से अपना भोजन मँगवाने की अनुमति भी नहीं दी गई थी। किंतु पंद्रह
वर्षीय प्रदीप हिम्मत के साथ चौदह दिनों तक आपातकाल के उन कालदूतों के
अत्याचार सहता रहा, पर न ही उसने माफी माँगी और न ही पोस्टर्स के बारे में कोई
जानकारी दी । उन्हीं के एक और साथी श्री वीरजीभाई परमार के साथ भी अत्याचार
किया गया। वीरजीभाई को तो पुलिस नहीं पकड़ सकी, परंतु उनके बड़े भाई के
साथ उन्हीं के घर के पास, मोहल्ले के लोगों के सामने ही, मारपीट की गई। हर
दो-तीन घंटे के अंतराल पर पुलिस उनके घर आ धमकती और सारे घर की तलाशी
ली जाती। गिरफ्तार किए गए एक और कार्यकर्ता श्री जमनभाई कारिया को इतना
पीटा गया कि वे अपने दोनों कानों की श्रवण-शक्ति हमेशा के लिए खो बैठे।
पोस्टर चिपकाते हुए पकड़े गए बीस वर्षीय युवक शशिकांत जोशी को
पुलिस थाने ले जा रही थी कि तभी वह दर्जन भर सिपाहियों को चकमा देकर भाग
निकला। पुलिस ने बौखलाकर उसके पिता श्री वेलजीभाई को गिरफ्तार कर लिया।
उनसे रिश्वत के रूप में घी के डिब्बों और रुपयों की माँग की गई। मजबूर होकर
शशिकांत को पुलिस के सामने उपस्थित होना पड़ा। पुलिस तो पहले से ही चिढ़ी
हुई थी। अत: शशिकांत की शरणागति से पुलिस को तो जैसे कोई बड़ा शिकार ही
हाथ लग गया हो--उसके पैरों के तलवों को तोड़ दिया गया। उसके जबड़ों पर
पुलिस इस तरह बरसी कि सारा मुँह लहूलुहान हो गया। टूटे हुए तलवे और जबड़ों
ने शशिकांत को जीवन भर के लिए अपाहिज बना दिया।
राजकोट से संघ के एक कार्यकर्ता श्री हतीशभाई नायक को भी गिरफ्तार
किया गया था। बिना किसी ठोस प्रमाण के पोस्टरों के वितरण के जुर्म में उन्हें पंद्रह
दिन के रिमांड के लिए भेज दिया गया। एक गुनहगार की तरह उन्हें हथकड़ियाँ
पहनाकर, रस्सों से बाँधकर ले जाया गया। रिमांड के दौरान दिन-रात उनपर जुल्म
