दो दिनों की हड़ताल का आदेश जारी किया गया। २६ को यथासंभव सभी गाँवों,
शहरों में जनसभाओं का आयोजन कर आपातस्थिति के विरोध में प्रदर्शनों का
निर्णय लिया गया। उसी दिन अहमदाबाद में भी शाम छह बजे जयप्रकाश चौक में
सभा का आयोजन किया गया।

आपातस्थिति के समाचार जैसे-जैसे फैलते गए वैसे-वैसे उसके विरोध का
प्रभाव भी तीव्र होता गया। अहमदाबाद में बाजार खुलते ही बंद हो गए। विद्यार्थी
स्कूल-कॉलेजों से बाहर आ गए। अहमदाबाद में उच्च न्यायालय सहित सभी
कार्यालय बंद रहे | वकीलों ने आपातस्थिति का प्रतिकार करते हुए जुलूस निकाला
और जनसभा का आयोजन कर इंदिरा के अलोकतांत्रिक आचरण की कड़ी भर्त्सना
की।
तुरंत ही बड़ौदा शहर में एक ' जनता संघर्ष समिति' गठित की गई। २६ जून
को संस्था कांग्रेस के श्री मनृभाई पटेल की अध्यक्षता में आयोजित एक जनसभा में
लोकतंत्र के पुनः स्थापन के लिए मुकाबला करने का प्रण किया गया।
गुजरात के हर छोटे-बड़े गाँव में हड़ताल पूर्ण सफल रही । सूरत, वलसाड़,
भरूच, वडोदरा, नड़ियाद, महेसाणा, भुज, जामनगर, राजकोट, जूनागढ़, भावनगर
जैसे मुख्य शहरों में भी जनसभाएँ आयोजित की गईं।
अहमदाबाद में श्री बी.के. मजूमदार की अध्यक्षता में जयप्रकाश चौक में
एक जनसभा आयोजित हुई। दिन भर के उत्तेजनापूर्ण वातावरण के पश्चात् इस
सभा में विशाल जनसमूह एकत्र हुआ था। सारे दिन बाबूभाई जशभाई पटेल की
गिरफ्तारी की अफवाहें उड़ती रही थीं | श्री वसंतभाई गजेंद्र गडकर एवं श्री दिनेशभाई
शाह ने सभा को संबोधित किया। अन्य राज्यों से प्राप्त समाचारों की जानकारी
उन्होंने उपस्थित लोगों को दी। श्रीमती गांधी द्वारा भारत की प्रजा को दी गई चुनौती
को स्वीकार करते हुए उसके शांतिपूर्ण प्रतिरोध के लिए उन्होंने जनता का आह्वान
किया। गुजरात में “मोरचे ' की लोकतांत्रिक सरकार होने के कारण इस संघर्ष में देश
का नेतृत्व करने की नैतिक जिम्मेदारी गुजरात के कंधों पर थी, अत: इस जिम्मेदारी
को निभाने का निर्णय किया गया। श्री वसंतभाई ने “नवनिर्माण' के रंग से सराबोर
युवाओं से अपील करते हुए कहा, “याद रहे, पथराव से वातावरण को कलुषित न
