निर्णय ने श्रीमती गांधी की डगमगाती स्थिति को एक और धक्का दिया। गुजरात के
नतीजों और इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय के निर्णय ने कांग्रेस की आंतरिक राजनीति
में तूफान मचा दिया। श्रीमती गांधी का सारा मायाजाल ध्वस्त हो गया।
सत्तालोलुप श्रीमती गांधी किसी भी प्रकार से सत्ता-त्याग के लिए तैयार
नहीं थीं। अत: अपनी सत्ता को बनाए रखने के लिए वे और अधिक चिंतित हो
उठीं। दूसरी ओर, राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर उनके त्यागपत्र की माँग जोर पकड़ने लगी।

थीं। उसी समय गुजरात में सही मायनों में लोकतांत्रिक शासन स्थापित करने की
तैयारी “जनता मोरचा' द्वारा की जा रही थी। १९ जून को गुजरात में मोरचा सरकार
ने श्री बाबूभाई पटेल के नेतृत्व में सत्ता की बागडोर सँभाली। परंतु केवल सात ही
दिनों में गुजतात की मोरचा सरकार की स्थिति किसी अनाथ बालक जैसी हो गई।
