विगत दस वर्षों की राजनीति ने भारत की जनता को अनेक नए अनुभवों से
परिचित कराया है। इस दौरान आँखों को चुभनेवाला व्यक्तिवाद फैला--वह भी
प्रजा की इच्छा और अनुमति के नाम पर ! बमुश्किल बत्तीस प्रतिशत जनमत पाकर
अस्तित्व में आई कांग्रेसी सरकारें इस दौर में अधिकाधिक मदहोश बनीं। “यावत्
चन्द्र दिवाकरौ' देश पर शासन करने के लिए ही उनका निर्माण हुआ है--ऐसी
उनकी भावना प्रबलतम होने लगी। ले-देकर बत्तीस प्रतिशत लोगों की ओर से
मिले सहयोग एवं प्रोत्साहन को भी वे न सँभाल सके। जनता को उनके आचार-
विचार में प्रतिपल बढ़ते जा रहे अविवेक का अनुभव होने लगा। जब कोई हम पर
भरोसा करता है तो उस स्थिति में हमारी जिम्मेदारी और भी बढ़ जाती है। सेवा के
इस मूल मंत्र को भी वे घोलकर पी गए।
स्पष्ट है कि यदि उन्होंने लोकमत द्वारा प्राप्त सत्ता का उपयोग सही अर्थों में
समाज के दीन-हीन वर्ग के लिए किया होता तो इस देश की ऐसी दुर्दशा न हुई
होती जैसी आज है। सत्तालोलुप एवं मदांध कांग्रेसियों ने निष्ठावान् गांधीवादियों
को तो अपने से बहुत पहले ही दूर फेंक दिया था। अब तो कांग्रेस के अखाड़े में
कुरसी की छीना-झपटी में कुशल बाहुबली ही बचे थे, जिन्होंने अपनी तमाम
शक्ति स्वयं को सर्वसत्ताधीश बनाने के प्रयत्नों पर ही लगा रखी थी। नतीजतन
बड़े-से-बड़े कांग्रेसी नेता से लेकर छोटे-से-छोटे कांग्रेसी कार्यकर्ता तक इस दूषण
का संक्रमण फैलने लगा। सत्ता के शौक का संक्रमण भी पानी के बहाव की तरह
ऊपर से नीचे की ओर आता है। कांग्रेस में भी प्रत्येक स्तर पर यह संक्रमण फैला।
परंतु राष्ट्र का दुर्भाग्य था कि इन सत्तालोलुप कांग्रेसी राजनीतिज्ञों की
